This is the twelfth in the popular series of marches by Sousa (1854-1932). The diverse music, which includes not only original marches but also arrangements from operettas and other works, tells the story of Sousa's charms that are not well known. The thirteen pieces on this album are relatively rare, and some, such as track 3, include valuable pieces that hint at a historical astronomical show. The suite "Three Daughters" is a collection of songs from his operettas, and the "Mikado" march is a medley of melodies from Gilbert & Sullivan's works. Track 9, "Death of Honor," is an arrangement by Sousa of a previously published piano piece into a brass band version when notorious President Ulysses S. Grant died. It was played at the actual funeral. Other interesting works are also featured. This is a performance full of love by Sousa's authoritie, Bryon. Naxos Japan
