Edward German was born in the small market town of Whitchurch, Shropshire, England. Raised in a family where his father was a brewer and local church organist and his mother an amateur singer, Jarman showed a talent for music from an early age. As he grew older, he became a violinist and composer, and in 1888 he was appointed music director of the Globe Theatre in London. Early in his career, Jarman put an end to his conducting career and became a composer, and was highly regarded as the successor to Arthur Sullivan, the great comic opera composer. This album includes one of his best-known works, "The Four Seasons," as well as "Theme and Six Diversions," written at the suggestion of his friend Elgar, and the overture to "Richard III" for Shakespeare's play. You can enjoy Jarman's signature skillful orchestration of these gorgeous works. Naxos Japan
