A collection of choral works with orchestral accompaniment by Latvian heavyweight Vasks! An album by Peteris Vasks for the 100th anniversary of Latvia's independence. It features four symphonic vocal works written by Vasks over the past 40 years, from his 1978 "Prayer to the Mother," an adaptation of his "Cantata to Women" composed on a poem by Imants Ziedonis, to his recent works "Laudate Dominum" (Praise the Lord) and "Latvian Prayer. The "Mass" ("Kyrie," "Gloria," "Sanctus," "Benedictus," and "Agnus Dei"), premiered in Copenhagen, Riga, and Helsinki in three versions (2000, 2001, 2005), is performed in the 2005 edition with chorus and string orchestra, plus organ. The Latvian Prayer is being recorded for the first time. It is performed in the version for mixed chorus and wind orchestra arranged by the composer Vilnis Schmiedbergs for this album. Tokyo M-Plus
