Born in Latvia, Zalinš has been active in Europe, the United States, and the Far East since his debut at age nine, performing alongside artists such as Boulez and Kremer. This album is dedicated to his revered mentor, Arvo Pärt. In addition to solo piano works (mostly from Pärt’s early to mid-career), it features piano duets and chamber music. The album also includes works composed by two Latvian composers who regard Pärt as their mentor, written to commemorate his 90th birthday. The album’s title, *AREFA*, is Pärt’s baptismal name. As musical notes, “La-Re-Fa” correspond to the triad that forms the foundation of his unique musical language, “Tintinnabuli.” The works by Perēcis and Seriķis are, quite literally, a tribute to Pärt and his music. This album illustrates the bond between Pärt, who was born in Estonia, and the contemporary Latvian music scene. Naxos Japan
