The 5th anniversary of Ida Haendel's death, a fan-favorite collection of live stereo recordings of all her works. The Sibelius with Berglund & LSO is the first time on CD! Ida Haendel (1928 [1923?] - 2020) has released a collection of live recordings that encapsulate the supreme artistry that she built up over her 70-year career. It includes the four violin concertos with which she was most closely associated. The Brahms concertos are powerful, reminiscent of her 1953 studio recording with Celibidacke (EMI), and the Sibelius concertos show the affinity that the composer herself praised so highly. The same studio recording with Boult from 1977 (EMI) and the live performance with Rattle in 1984 (Testament) are also available, as well as the monumental performance of Elgar from 1971 and Britten (digital recording), which she performed all over the world and contributed greatly to its revival. Her powerful yet sensitive playing, which seems to come from within, is the very essence of violin art. Enjoy her musical legacy to your heart's content. While Brahms and Britten have been previously released to the world as a supplement to the November 2015 issue of BBC Music Magazine, this is believed to be the first commercial release of Sibelius and Elgar.
