Pilsen Po Strauss, Richard (1864-1949)

Description:

Remi Barrault, who has shown his own unique style in Bruckner, launches a new Richard Strauss project! As the permanent conductor of the Bruckner-Tage summer festival in St. Florian, Rémi Barrault completed a complete symphony cycle, recording one symphony each year except for the period of the Corona Disaster. In 2024, he was appointed as the Permanent Conductor. The Gramola label, a long-established record store in Vienna, began recording Richard Strauss's works after Bruckner. The first of these is now available. The Richard Strauss-Tage (Richard Strauss Festival) began in 1989, 40 years after Strauss' death, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where he spent much of the second half of his life. The festival is held around June and features chamber music and recitals, open-air concerts, lectures, stage productions including new works, and a tour of Strauss' villa. The highlight of the festival was the orchestra concert, which in 2024 featured two programs, including "Don Juan" and "Life of a Hero." Recorded here are the performances at the concert and rehearsal held at the orchestra's home prior to the festival. This method is expected to be adopted in the future, as the acoustics of the Festival's venues are not suitable for recording. Remi Barrault was born in Paris. He studied violin under Gerard Poullet at the Paris Conservatory and was greatly influenced by Sergiu Celibidacke, whom he met at the age of 16. After performing as a violinist at the Vienna State Opera, he began conducting in earnest. In his Bruckner recording, Barrow adopted a slow tempo similar to Celibidacke's, taking into account the long reverberation characteristic of St. Florian, but in this Strauss, he gives a neat interpretation. The orchestra is not the type of performance that overwhelms with its functionality and power, but the wind and percussion instruments do not glare, and the organic sound with warmth based on well-matched strings has a unique flavor. *The domestic edition comes with a Japanese commentary by Daisuke Hirose, Executive Director (Secretary General) of the Richard Strauss Society of Japan.
