Born in Kieu, Mykola Diletsky is a music theorist, composer, and educator. She studied in Vilnius and worked in Smolensk, Kieu, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Lviv, and Krakow. He composed a great deal of polyphonic choral music, including music for worship and various motets and canons.Conductor Andrzej Kosenjak, who is dedicated to introducing the unknown baroque music of Poland, first encountered Diletsky's music in 2019 and was strongly impressed. That same year, he performed parts of his Requiem Liturgy and has been working on Diletsky's works ever since. The album includes two worship pieces written for four unaccompanied choruses that combine Eastern Orthodox music with Western musical elements. The Wroclaw Baroque Ensemble performs with a total of eight members, two in each voice (soprano, countertenor, tenor, and bass). This disc explores the music created in the Polish-Lithuanian Republic and the origins of Ukrainian polyphonic music. (Naxos Japan)
