The Hindemith series by ONDINE is back with a new collection of rare and valuable flute works. The soloist is the young and hot young Karapanos! Hindemith mastered almost all the instruments of the orchestra and wrote sonatas and concertos for a variety of instruments. This album covers a wide range of flute solo works, including the well-known flute sonatas as well as those for students. The soloist, Karapanos, was born in Athens in 1996 and was awarded the Leonard Bernstein Prize at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in 2020. The orchestra is a youngster who has attracted a great deal of attention in Japan, where he has made appearances with the PMF and the NHK Symphony Orchestra. The highlight of the concerto is the "Concerto for Woodwinds, Harp, and Orchestra," which is a fascinating piece with its speedy and gorgeous development. The soloists in the concerto are also superb, including Wittmann, Moinet, Schweigelt, and Langrame. The orchestra, led by Sayako Kusaka, gives a sharp and lively performance that reveals the true value of this work.The world premiere recording of "Enthusiasm" was made in a composition class at Yale University, where Hindemith wrote the piece on the blackboard in front of his students.
