Howard Skempton is one of the leading figures in contemporary British composition. Although influenced by Britten, Cage, and Cardew, he has carved out a world of his own and produced many unique works. This album focuses on "50 Preludes and Fugues for Organ," written in 2022-23 in honor of the works of J.S. Bach, and performed at St. George's Church, Hanover Square, London, and Merton College, Oxford, in the composer's presence. It was recorded by Matthew Owens, Director of Music at Belfast Cathedral, in the presence of the composer at St. George's Church, Hanover Square, London, and at Merton College, Oxford.
