It is one of Saint-Saëns' masterpieces and one of the pinnacles of modern French opera. This new production is a collaboration between Antonio Pappano, who has been Music Director of Covent Garden for 20 years since 2002 and will complete his term in the 2023/24 season, and Richard Jones, a nine-time Olivier Award-winning (as of November 2023) master of British directing. This is a recording of the new production.The two in the title roles are Elina Galancha, a mezzo-soprano who has performed the role of Delilah at the Vienna State Opera, Metropolitan Opera, Berlin State Opera, Salzburg Festival, and other world-renowned stages since 2018 and is regarded as the best Delilah singer of our time, and Elina Galancha, a powerful and naive singer who sings beautifully with Galancha and Seok Jung Baek, a tenor from South Korea, plays the role of Samson, who crosses paths with Galancha with his powerful and simple singing.
