Britten's opera "A Summer Night's Dream" is back on film! Glyndebourne Festival 1981] Based on Shakespeare's play, Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears co-wrote the libretto for Britten's masterpiece "A Summer Night's Dream," which was first performed at the 1960 Oldborough Festival. In 1981, 21 years after its premiere, the production was given a premiere at the Glyndebourne Festival, where it became a staple of the festival's repertoire thanks to the masterful combination of mysterious forest scenes and humorous scenes by Peter Hall, a master of British theater. The London Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Bernard Haitink, the festival's music director at the time, performed the magical atmosphere of Britten, with the lovely boy sopranos playing Puck and the fairies, James Bowman, the famous British countertenor who passed away in March 2023 (as Auberon), and Ivory Bowman, the famous British countertenor who died in March 2023 (as Auberon). The singing team, which includes such big names as James Bowman (Auberon), Ileana Cottlebass (Titania), and Felicity Lott (Helena), all of whom passed away in March 2023, deliver performances that are full of charm and charm.This video was recorded live for TV broadcast on August 24, 1981 after 10 performances during the festival in June and July 1981.
