Ballad album featuring Nigl and Pasichenko] This is the second album featuring Nigl, a baritone singer active in baroque and contemporary opera, and Pasichenko, a world-renowned pianist who performs mainly on historical instruments. This album features Schubert's "Violets," which takes 15 minutes to perform, and other narrative ballads. Nigl's singing is very impressive with its gentle, narrative expression, but it is also very appealing with its occasional dramatic highs and good humor. Pasichenko's piano is also excellent, and in some parts, you can enjoy the Janichalen pedal (a Turkish-style percussion pedal) equipped on Graf's instrument, as well as the change of tone by using a special stop. The jacket is a photograph by composer Pascal Dusapin, as on the previous album (ALPHA646). Naxos Japan
