Description:
Bernhard Sechles was a composer active in early 20th century Germany, working at the theater in Mainz from 1894 to 1895 and teaching at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt from 1896, where he later became director. By the time of his death in 1934, he had composed operas, orchestral and chamber music, most of which remains forgotten to this day. The songs on this album include "Aus dem Schi-King," based on a text adapted from a Chinese poem by Friedrich Rückert. The beautiful melodies are in the tradition of German lieder, while the exoticism that was popular at the time is evident in these unique works, which showcase Sechles' personality without regret.
