The latest Bach recordings on his own label, BOX, are a compilation of his unrivaled recordings of vocal works requiring chorus, and in recent years, Philip Herreweghe has given remarkable performances of great orchestral works from the 19th century onward. In the field of ancient music performance, which can be said to be his starting point, his lifelong commitment to Bach's works has been highly acclaimed around the world. In the latter half of the 20th century, soon after founding the Collegium Vocale Ghent with fellow students, he worked as a choral conductor for the master conductor Gustav Leonhardt, who with Nikolaus Harnoncourt was recording the world's first complete Bach church cantatas on ancient instruments. He has since recorded many groundbreaking Bach performances under his own direction with trusted players of ancient music, which were a departure from the common performance practice of the time. He has released a series of masterpieces with unparalleled centripetal force and unity.
