Description:

This is the second of ten volumes of the complete Bruckner symphonies in organ version, commemorating the 200th anniversary of Bruckner's birth in 2024. In the previous work (OC476), No. 0, Hansjörg Albrecht used the organ of the "Bruckner Organ," commonly known as the "Bruckner Organ" at the St. Florian Abbey in Linz, Austria, and in this work, the organ of the "Bruckner House" in Linz is being played. The central work this time is Symphony No. 1, composed in 1886. It predates Symphony No. 0, and although Bruckner revised it many times, this organ version by Erwin Horn uses the first draft version. The other two rarely heard pieces are the "Three Pieces" WAB 97 and the "March" WAB 96, composed between 1861 and 1863. The small pieces that Bruckner is said to have completed for the first time have also been transformed into brilliant organ pieces, also by Erwin Horn. Also new, as is always the case for this series, is Oskar Joeckel's "Bruckner Fenster II" this time. The music is a magnificent composition reminiscent of the dawn of Richard Strauss's "Alpine Symphony," while using fragments of material from the First Symphony. The organ is located in the large, medium, and small halls of the Bruckner House, which was built between 1969 and 1973. The organ was built by the Dutch company Flentrop at the same time as the hall was constructed, but due to its recent aging, it could not be maintained and was rebuilt by the Austrian company Rieger starting in June 2018. The exterior of the old organ was preserved and its beautiful appearance has been carried over. The new organ was unveiled at the ""2018 International Bruckner Festival"" with a performance by Iveta Apkarna. Naxos Japan
