Rattle and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks present "Die Walküre"! Simon Rattle conducted "Die Walküre" in concert form in January-February 2019. Rattle's interpretation of Wagner has been further refined in the four years since his previous production of "Gold of the Rhine" (900133), and his performance is one that focuses on the grand drama as a whole. This performance, like the previous one, is characterized by the excellence of the singers. The core of the drama in the first half, Siegmund, is played by Stewart Skelton from Australia, currently acclaimed as "the most brilliant Helden tenor," and the role of Sieglinde is played by Eva-Maria Westburg from the Netherlands. Rattle carefully brings out the best of her, who is known as an excellent Wagnerian singer. The role of Fricka is played by Elisabet Kuhlmann, the same singer as in the previous production, while the role of Wotan is taken over from Michael Follé by James Rutherford, a British singer of great talent, who shows off his youthful and elongated voice. Irene Theorin as Brunnhilde has an outstandingly strong voice, and her presence in the double singing of "Wotan's Farewell" at the end of the opera is outstanding.
