Capriccio label's "Premiere Portraits" series features young, talented singers. This time we shine the light on German baritone Christian Meidl. A native of Bassau, Germany, Meidl won first prize in the "Jugend musiziert," a competition for young artists. She then studied lieder and oratorio with Wolfgang Holzmaier at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, and is a spirited newcomer who sings a wide range of repertoire from baroque to contemporary works. He has appeared at the Bavarian State Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Vienna State Opera, La Scala in Milan, Malmö Opera, and many other venues to great acclaim. He is particularly good at modern and contemporary works, and has been remarkably active, including the Japanese premiere of Udo Zimmermann's opera "The White Rose," which was performed at Suntory Hall in 2018. In this album titled "Songs of the Night," she has taken up various "songs associated with night" from Liszt to Rihm and carefully sung them with intelligent interpretation and a lustrous voice.
