Description:
Richard Itter (1928-2014), founder of the Lyrita Recorded Edition label, actively recorded British music and contributed to the discovery of unknown composers. This is the fifth in a series of CDs from his valuable collection of BBC broadcasts, which he has been air-checking since 1952 using the most advanced professional equipment available at the time. Menuhin, who specialized in Mozart concertos and had a repertoire of seven in all, including pseudo works, recorded a series of live studio concerts of the complete works at the BBC in January 1956, and this is the first release under official license from the BBC. Unfortunately, No. 5 "Turkish Style" and No. 6 (a fake) were lost, but Paul Bailey's careful remastering of the recording allows us to enjoy the 39-year-old Menuhin's virtuosity in surprisingly fresh sound quality.
