Magnificat, who gave us overwhelmingly great singing in their masterpiece, Tallis' "Motets in 40 Voices" (CKD 233), has now released a collection of works by three great composers of the Tudor (Elizabethan) era in England, William Byrd (c.1540-1623), Robert White (c.1538-1574), and Robert Parsons (c.1535-c.1572) sing church music in Latin! ■Magnificat's singing of the church music of Byrd, White, and Parsons demonstrates excellent counterpoint and is a masterpiece of Latin in an era when Catholicism and the Anglican Church were compatible.
