This is the fifth album by the girl group that supported Motown's breakthrough in 1968. The original LP of "Ridin' High" is the fifth album of Martha & The Vandellas (excluding live albums and best of albums), and was released at the end of April 1968.From their first hit "Come And Get These Memories" in 1963, to their first R&B #1 hit "Heat Wave", to the group's biggest pop hit ever "Dancing In The Street", to the group's last pop Top 10 hit "Jimmy Mack" in February of 1967, the girls have written (and co-written) 11 songs that have consistently been in the Top 20 R&B charts. The group's last Top 10 pop hit, "Jimmy Mack," was released in February 1967, and the group wrote (and co-wrote) 11 songs that reached the Top 20 R&B charts. It was produced and released while both of them were leaving Motown. ...... might make you think that the album was released after the "peak" of their career, but that's nothing but a hasty assumption. The fact that the album reached #13 on the R&B album chart and a total of eight songs (including the B-side) have been made into singles is proof that this is a substantial work with a series of excellent recordings.The five songs by the two creators at the heart of the album, Sylvia Moy and Richard Morris, are all of high quality, especially the lovely and refreshing "Honey Chile" (2), which reached #5 R&B and #11 Pop. The quality of each of the five songs is high, as is the fact that Moi has contributed some of Stevie Wonder's most famous songs of the '60s, such as "Uptight (Everything's Alright)," "My Cherie Amour," and "I Was Made To Love Her," as well as the Isley Brothers' Motown-era smash "This Old Heart," which was a big hit for the band. Morris, on the other hand, has been a major force in the music industry since the debut of the Primettes, the predecessors of the Vandellas' rivals, the Supremes, and has also recorded Edwin Starr's "Stop Her On Sight (S.O.S.)" and the Originals' smash "Baby". He was also a talented Detroit-based producer who worked with Marvin Gaye on the Originals' hit "Baby, I'm For Real. ～Includes obi commentary, excerpts from the commentary.
