"The Father of J-POP" Kyohei Tsutsumi's Unreleased Jazz Project: An Analog Record 『TokyoSuiteTsutsumiKyoheiPresentsforTOMA』 Unreleased tracks written by composer Kyohei Tsutsumi specifically for saxophonist Yoshihisa Tomabechi (TOMA)—a member of the jazz band Tsutsumi maintained as a private project during his lifetime—have recently been discovered. To bring these precious compositions to the world, they have now been compiled into a single album. In this era of digital recording, we returned to the roots of the recording studio. To capture the stable, authentic, live sound of the mid-to-low frequencies—the most crucial element in sound creation—we set up a 2-inch, 16-channel analog multichannel recording system at King Sekiguchidai Studio and undertook a “one-take recording” session, capturing the musicians’ performances as they played simultaneously. Furthermore, every step of the process—from mixing to mastering—was carried out using analog sources, resulting in the birth of the ultimate collection of acoustic sounds that pursues the rich sonic appeal unique to meticulous analog recording. The album features a total of nine tracks: five previously unreleased instrumental pieces themed around “Tokyo,” where Kyohei Tsutsumi was born and raised; three new original songs by the participating members; and a cover of the hit song “Mermaid.”
