Most piano students think (and must think) that the 60 exercises were written by a composer named "Kramer-Bülow". In fact, the 84 exercises in the fifth volume composed by Johann Baptiste Cramer (1771-1858) were revised by Hans von Bülow (former husband of Liszt's daughter Cosima) and have become well-known exercises in Japan. Here you will hear all 84 exercises in their original form. These exercises were used by Beethoven's nephew Karl for practice, and Clara Schumann is also known to have been given them by her father when she was learning to play the piano. They also had a great influence on other later composers, and the piece by Busoni (1866-1924) included here is from his own "10 Exercises," based on Cramer's piece but much more difficult.We will bring you the pleasure of playing and listening.
