This is a collection of masterpieces released to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the death of the great Russian conductor Evgeny Svetlanov (1928-2002). He studied at the Moscow Conservatory, began conducting at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1955, and was appointed Chief Conductor in 1962, becoming Music Director of the Russian National Symphony Orchestra in 1965, a position he held until 2000. Unfortunately, he was unable to fulfill this ambition, but he continued to give a series of masterful performances. It should also be noted that he frequently visited Japan and brought out the hidden potential of the NHK Symphony Orchestra. Rachmaninoff is one of his most beloved composers, and this second symphony is full of the rich and passionate expression that is typical of Svetlanov.The overture to Bernstein's "Candide" is a rare recording that does not even exist in the studio, and the brilliant and dynamic performance will make Svetlana fans weep with joy, and even non-fans will be thrilled.
