Description:
A four-piece girl band that began activities in November 2017 on Lombok Island, Indonesia. Members are Riri (guitar & vocals), Yollan (guitar), Meiga (bass), and Desita (drums). They released their 1st EP, 'Inthrovvvert', in 2018 and began live performances starting with 'Record Store Day Lombok 2018' held on April 21st of that year. The band name "The Dare" originates from "Dedare," meaning "girl" in Sasak. The spirit of redefining "being a girl = being brave" is embodied in this name. Heavily influenced by the 90s Riot Grrrl movement, they express resistance to sexism, prejudice, and stereotypes, along with the joy of being female, through their music and lyrics. They play an indie pop sound deeply influenced by K Records, Sarah Records, bands featured on C86 compilations, and especially Heavenly and Tiger Trap. Additionally, having grown up watching Japanese anime, they cite influences such as theme songs like JUDY AND MARY's "Freckles" (from Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan) and Hysteric Blue's "Grow Up" (from School Ghost Stories), as well as Japanese punk rock/pop-punk bands like Shonen Knife and PiGGiES. They enjoy immense popularity within Indonesia's indie scene, with their limited-edition vinyl releases selling out instantly. They consistently pack live houses and ignite audiences, establishing themselves as one of the most important indie pop bands. This work, "369 Days," is their third EP, released in 2025, exploring themes of "life and death," "love for cherished people," and "loss and hope." It opens with surf instrumental A1 "White Sand," reminiscent of the beaches of Lombok, followed by pure guitar pop A2 "Sunburn" and A3 "Swanky Fools," which are sure to get you singing along, indie pop B1 "Yes Sir!" with its sparkling guitar evoking a sense of longing , the fast-paced, jangly pop B2 "BLA BLA BLAH" reminiscent of Dolly Mixture, and the catchy, surf-flavored indie rock B3 "Hello Mama". Indie pop? Twee pop? Absolutely. But this definitive 8-track collection also blends elements of riot grrrl, pop punk, surf music, and tropical sounds! For Fans of... Dolly Mixture, Drizzly., The Drums, Go Sailor, Grrrl Gang, Heavenly, Sobs, Teenage Fanclub, Tennis, Tiger Trap etc...
