A 16-year-old jazz prodigy has emerged! Canadian jazz singer Sophie Barkal Sarbitt, known as "Young Peggy Lee," has been invited to perform at the Jazzercise Festival of Canada. Sophie herself was involved in the selection of this album, and it includes many of her favorite songs. Her performance is full of youthfulness and more than enough to give the impression of a big talent. This is her debut album with top-notch Canadian musicians. The opening song, "Midnight Sun," has a wonderfully jazzy guitar intro and is led by horns. Just hearing this familiar Ella Fitzgerald song, one gets the feeling that this is not a 16 year old girl with a lot of time on her hands. The tenor sax solo in the middle part of the song is also worth listening to. She also sings "I've Got A Right To Sing The Blues," a song with a hint of bluesiness that Peggy Lee also sings, without any difficulty. The medium-tempo swing of "Sunday" is outstandingly brilliant, and "Baltimore Oriole" and "Circle" are dazzling in their youthful exuberance.The performance of "The Man I Love," famously sung by Billie Holiday, is astonishing. The unique Joni Mitchell hit "Both Side Now," sung with piano and violin in the background, is also a masterpiece. The quality of the song is higher than expected, and the teenage blueness that sometimes shows through also adds to the charm of the song. This is the debut album of a potential future star, which is too wonderful an introduction to it.
