Midnight Shelter" (2021), a duo album by Sachal Vasandani, one of the leading vocalists on the contemporary jazz scene, and pianist/arranger Roman Colan, was described as "a new standard for midnight spun with song and piano. The two have come together again to complete a new album. The album was recorded with Sachal standing by the piano to capture every detail of their breathing and resonance with each other. The result is an album that is even more intimate and serene than its predecessor, the result of an exhaustive approach to sound that "chose the best piano to play more quietly than ever before. In the year 2020, musicians are trapped in a pandemic and deprived of the opportunity to express themselves. Amidst the anxiety and anger, "Midnight Shelter," created from a midnight session between the two musicians, was a source of hope and empathy and a great response from people around the world who feel the same sense of entrapment.Based on this solid response, "Still Life" was infused with a clear image and better production environment, from the studio and recording method to the quality of the piano used, in order to pursue the world view and aesthetic of the previous work even more deeply. The piano, which Roman Collin says "I chose the best piano to play more quietly than ever before," is quiet and deep, and harmonizes beautifully with Sachal's vocals, which he says "I valued facing the songs with sincerity," to create a unique sound world.
