A multi-instrumentalist who defies universal criticism! Tokyo-based SSW Shiro Aonuma's new album as a "one-man multi-recording unit"! The soul of this work is the strong urge to deny the isolation and "scattered expertise (≒dexterity)" that tends to accompany being a jack-of-all-trades. The longing for "Be My Baby" by the Ronettes in the opening track "I'll Hold Your Umbrella," and the spell of eviction in "Scarborough Fair" intermingled with the impulse in the title track "Red Mage Melancholy" reflect the divergence and conflict between the musical context and one's own presentness. The "blue" in "Aozakareta Seikatsu", which is played with a reduced number of notes as if to deny even his own versatility, symbolizes the sorrow and melancholy of a multi-player (red mage). The jacket art is a collage by Shiro Aonuma himself, created by tearing and pasting photographs of magical instruments used in the recording process and motifs appearing in the songs on the album.
