Description:
The second Mahler piece by the prodigious Gabriel Feltz! Symphony No. 6 "Tragic"! Includes Japanese commentary on Feltz's analysis of the work! This is the second Mahler concert by the brilliant conductor Gabriel Feltz, who is well known among connoisseurs. The first one, No. 7 (CD21041), was also a monstrous performance with a unique tempo. In the liner notes of this release, Felz provides a detailed analysis of the work (Japanese translation is also available), which shows his extraordinary ambition. The presentation of the first movement is, as is customary, repetitive. The second theme, known as "Alma's theme," is sung with a deep and persistent feeling that draws the listener in. The artificial slowing down of the tempo just before the famous hammering down of the fourth movement, which could be described as either anticipatory or anxious, is very mocking, but on the contrary, it is interesting and addictive. The contrast between the silence just before the final shot and the startling surprise is also a must-listen. [Comment courtesy of Tobu Trading].
