This is the debut full-length album by STAINLESS, a four-piece hard rock/heavy metal band from Portland, Oregon, featuring a female vocalist and bassist. Formed in 2022, STAINLESS is comprised of members with backgrounds in the Pacific Northwest underground scene, having previously played in bands such as BLACKBREATH, LONGKNIFE, NIGHTFELL, and RIPPER. A key characteristic of the band is their refusal to adhere strictly to any single genre, instead prioritizing a sound that exists somewhere between hard rock and heavy metal. Following the single "Snakebite/Too Hot to Steal" and the mini-album *Nocturnal Racer*, this album marks STAINLESS’s first full-length release, showcasing a significant expansion in both sonic range and production quality. Recording took place at Red Lantern Studios in Portland, with guitarist Jamie Byrum himself deeply involved in the production. The sound is not overly polished, retaining a raw, gritty core. Sonically, the dynamism of 70s hard rock and the steel-edged intensity of 80s heavy metal are naturally fused. The riff-driven song structures, reminiscent of AC/DC and ACCEPT, are straightforward yet never monotonous; changes in tempo and arrangement clearly define the individual character of each track. The guitar work combines crispness with a sense of weight, and the solo sections feature live-oriented, impactful phrases placed effectively. Larissa Cavacece’s vocals are a key element defining the sound of this album. Her rough, gritty vocals, reminiscent of Leather Leone and Wendy O. Williams, combine hard rock sex appeal with punk-derived aggression, giving the songs a powerful driving force. While each track—led by the catchiness of “Restless An’ Ready” and including “ (Don’t Cross Me) Fool” and “Take A Listen Mama”—displays a distinct character, the album as a whole maintains a consistent rock vibe, which is highly commendable. This debut full-length album openly embraces classic influences while reconstructing them with a modern band sensibility, leaving a strong impression of STAINLESS’s potential to further establish their presence in the future.
