The second program by the talented Swiss Piano Trio, which made its audite debut with the Schumann-Mendelssohn (AU92550), a trio that brings different personalities into vivid relief, is Schumann. The second program features Schumann's first and second works, both written in 1847 during his Dresden years. The Swiss Piano Trio recorded Schumann No. 1 in May 2010, the bicentennial anniversary of Schumann's birth, just after the trio's three performances in Switzerland. The second piece, which was started a little later and completed in only three days from sketch to completion, is said to have been praised by Mahler, and is a work with more freedom, with quotations from Beethoven and Mendelssohn.A solid performance by the Swiss Piano Trio brings out the charm of these two pieces, which are of an objective character, and reveals Schumann's versatile appeal.
