CLARA YANG
Description:
Clara Yang is a Chinese-American pianist who studied under the legendary pianist Claude Frank at the Yale School of Music and under John Perry at the University of Southern California, from which she graduated with honors. She is a rapidly rising young pianist who performs around the world, giving solo recitals and collaborating with orchestras in various countries. American contemporary composer Muchinski’s *Pieces for Heretics* is a collection of 12 pieces composed in 1977. The works are lyrical, reminiscent of 19th-century character pieces, and incorporate jazz idioms and Bartók-style rhythms. Phil Young’s “Reflections on the Three Hundred Tang Poems” was inspired by Zhang Ji’s poem “Anchoring at Maple Bridge at Night.” Utilizing the pentatonic Chinese scale, the piece exudes a sense of timelessness while presenting a dramatic and modern composition. Tobu Land System
