Norwegian-born violinist Mari Samuelsen's latest album, "Life," is now available on LP and is a "kaleidoscope" of reflections from the violinist's experience of motherhood. This is Samuelsen's third DG album, inspired by her experience of motherhood. Known for her lively, imaginative programs and passionate virtuoso playing, she expresses the emotions she discovered as a parent in kaleidoscopic music. The program includes works by Johan Johansson, Olivia Belli, Nils Frahm, Ludovico Einaudi, Mario Razinha, Bryce Dessner, Hanya Lani, Max Richter, Steve Reich, and a number of well-known contemporary composers, with the sole exception of The fourth movement of Schubert's quintet "Mas" was chosen, Samuelsen said, to evoke happy memories of his own childhood, especially about playing music. The album is a musical exploration of the innate, unfiltered emotions that connect us all.Inspired by her feelings and emotions as a mother, she explores the language of universal connection and reveals its power to transform situations and transcend them. The experience opens the door to a whole new dimension. Samuelsen reflects this experience in his music through feelings and matters that everyone can relate to: curiosity, failure, love, and happiness, which are reflected in the album through his artwork. The album ends with "Song for Octave," a lullaby Bryce Dessner wrote for his own young son.
