Einaudi drew inspiration for Le Onde (The Wave) from Virginia Woolf's novel The Wave. The album is filled with hypnotic melodies that evoke the image of repeating ocean rhythms. The story is set along a long, long coastline with no beginning and no end. It is a story about walking along this seashore and perhaps never meeting anyone. It shows objects and debris carried from the sea, the footprints of crabs and lonely seagulls, the sand, the sky, the clouds and the sea.
