The glimmer of emotion that Serge poured into the piano sound will surely reach you. This work is the 169th in the Sawano Kobo and Atelier Sawano series. Looking back a little, this French pianist Serge Delat was first introduced in Japan with AS029 "Lookin' Up" (2003). It is not an album that makes a big statement, but it has a unique melodic beauty, and he has the skill to make standards and other music sound like his own. Since AS029, he has slowly become known to jazz fans and has released 14 albums, including this one on Sawano. And what I always think is that Delato's first song selection is always outstanding. The title track by Michel Petrucciani on his debut album was a masterpiece, and the first track on this album is also a very compelling one. This time it is "A Paz" by Gilberto Gil of Brazil. What can I say about the piano that seems to rain down on the listener?The other pieces featured include Gershwin, Legrand, Jobim, and even Charlie Parker, but all have a pause, rhythm, and tenderness that I like to call "Delato's tempo," which shows off his maestroism. Finally, following the first song, my recommendation is the melancholy "Hohen Sunny Gets Blue. The somewhat nostalgic melody of "At Laurette's (Chez Laurette)". Now, which song is your favorite?
