Description:
The new two-disc set by Germany's hottest cellist, Rafael Gromes, features works by female composers. Rafael Gromes has earned a reputation for excellent, brilliant, passionate, and expressive cello playing, and since 2017 has released six albums on Sony Classical, each unique in its own right. The world premiere recording of works by R. Strauss and Julius Klengel in 2020 was described as "a performance that captures the charm of these works as if they were overflowing with romanticism," and the 2019 Offenbach collection won the Opus Klassik Award 2020. When asked, "Why don't you make an album of works by female composers?" Gromes was astonished to learn that there were only a few women composers that she knew of. She then waded through the works of various women composers and selected beautiful works from the Middle Ages to the present by 23 women composers, from Hildegard von Bingen and Clara Schumann to Billie Eilish, to create this two-CD masterpiece.Half was recorded with the Lucerne Festival String Orchestra, the other half with cello and piano, and many pieces were newly arranged for this work.
