Singer-songwriter Richard Nutt, known as one half of the legendary duo Toma/Nutt—a group that earned acclaim among Hawaiian AOR aficionados and local musicians in the late 1970s, standing alongside Kalapana and Cesilio & Kapono. With a strong following in Japan—including the re-release of his 1980 solo masterpiece *NOT JUST ANOTHER PRETTY FACE* on EM RECORDS—his 2023 album marks his first-ever vinyl release. Every track was written by Richard, who also handled all production and arrangements. It’s fantastic right from the opening track, “Little Baby, Won’t You Count On Me,” with its light, breezy chorus intro. The album is packed with wonderful tracks, including the ballad “Loving You Again,” featuring sparkling electric piano and percussion; “Love Will Take You There,” where the synthesizer tones create a mysterious effect; “How Deep Is Your Love,” sung with deep emotion against a backdrop of an addictive beat and cool synths and electric piano; and “Our Life,” brimming with an urban vibe. This is definitely an album you’ll want to listen to on vinyl.
