My New Band Believe, the new band led by Black Midi bassist and occasional frontman Cameron Picton, has released their debut album *MyNewBandBelieve* via Rough Trade Records. The album was produced by Cameron, along with Caroline’s Jasper Hewelin and Mike O’Malley. My New Band Believe’s debut album began in a feverish, dreamlike state. In a hotel room in China, as Cameron Picton suffered from a sudden illness, strange images and jumbled fragments of words flashed one after another through his consciousness. He later salvaged some of those fragments and shaped them into songs, but the one that burned most strongly into his mind was the mysterious phrase “My New Band Believe.” As the bassist for Black Midi—and at times their frontman—Cameron had worked alongside his bandmates to create a musical universe of explosive scale, weaving complex narratives into the thrilling developments born of controlled chaos. When the group disbanded in 2023, Cameron felt neither an immediate urge to make a solo album nor a desire to jump into another band. Neither fully a member of a team nor a band leader—it was in this ambiguous position that he entered the studio, and eventually, the seeds of My New Band Believe began to slowly sprout. (1/2)
