Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra

Description:

Here is the origin of the master conductor Fritz Reiner, who established one of the poles of 20th century orchestral performance art. All recordings with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, where the "Rainer legend" was created before the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, are now available on CD from the original masters. He was a conductor of the same generation as Anselme (1883-1969), Klemperer (1885-1973), Furtwängler (1886-1954), E. Kleiber (1890-1956), and Munsch (1891-1968), a musician who served the objective reproduction of the main current of music in the 20th century rather than the romantic euphoria that remained in the 19th century. He was a conductor of the same generation. He studied composition, piano, and percussion with Bartók and others at the Budapest Conservatory, and made his conducting debut in Budapest in 1909. After working at the Budapest Opera (1911-1914) and the Saxon Court Opera (Dresden State Opera) (1914-1921), he came to the United States in 1922 and served as music director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (1922-1931) and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (1938-1948). After serving as conductor of the Metropolitan Opera (1949-1953), he became music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in September 1953, rebuilding this orchestra from the brink of crisis to its golden age.The document imprinted with Reiner's pre-Chicago Symphony Orchestra appearance has been reissued from the authorized masters, In 2013, Sony Classical released a 63-CD box set of the recordings, but only a few of the pre-Chicago era mono to SP recordings for Columbia and RCA have been released on CD from authorized sources. This 14-CD set is a valuable release that fills this gap in historical understanding, as it brings together all the recordings he made with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, of which he was then music director, between 1941 and 1947, as well as all of Reiner's recordings for Columbia Records up to 1950. This is a valuable release that fills in the gaps in our historical understanding. The reissues are all based on the original metal recordings and transfers from the Sony Music Archives, and are the most recent reissues of recordings previously released on CD by Sony Classical (about 2.5 CDs were released in the late 1990s as part of the Masterworks Heritage series). The reissue from disc is the first time that the masterworks of Andrea Bartolini, who is one of the most famous musicians in the world, has been reissued on CD. The reissue from disc was done by Andreas K. Meyer, a master musician.(1/5) Sony Music
