The Juilliard String Quartet, the greatest quartet ever created in the U.S.A., presents the spirit of tradition. The Juilliard String Quartet, one of America's greatest quartets, celebrated its 70th anniversary last season. This album, which seems to document this monumental milestone, combines wonderfully vivid and original works from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries into a single disc. As for the intent of the album, "Bringing together Beethoven, Davidovsky, and Bartók on one disc is a perfect representation of the Juilliard String Quartet's history and performance policy," said the quartet's artistic director, Dr. Gerhard Schwartz. As we often do in concert, we were able to include three aspects of our most important repertoire on disc and express the many complex and fascinating qualities that these works disclose," said the musicians themselves.The 19th-century Beethoven is a work of tension in a condensed composition that is a synthesis of his creative work up to the mid-19th century; the 20th-century Bartók is a work of complexity and tension that incorporates twelve tones; and the 20th-century Bartók is a work of complexity and tension that incorporates twelve tones. Driven by some creative force, it reconstructs that broken thing.As the narrative unfolds as percussive and lyrical, all of these elements are recreated in new sequences and contexts, followed by fast episodes of complexity, as if constantly reprocessing and developing different expressive precision.
