Heinz Holliger has been in the spotlight for the past few years for his diverse activities as a multi-musician. He not only conducted his own works, Schubert and Schumann with four orchestras, but also participated in his own works and chamber music as an oboe player, demonstrating his unprecedented activities as a musician. This album will be released on May 5, 2019. This album is the third in a series of recordings of Schubert's complete symphonies with the Basel Chamber Orchestra that began with The Great in 2018 to celebrate Holliger's 80th birthday in May 2019.His two previous albums have received rave reviews in FONOFORUM and GRAMOPHONE magazines, receiving the highest scores for both performance and recording, and "The Great" was selected as a "Record Geijutsu" special selection when it was released in Japan last year. Holiger said of the qualities of Schubert's symphonies, "Like Mahler, the music has a lovely sound and a worldliness like drinking wine in a Viennese tavern, but in an instant, the music looks into a horrible abyss of death. The bright sense of color is always next to darkness and abyss," he points out, emphasizing that the use of period instruments by different instruments allows for the acquisition of "transparency and shadows of sound".
