George Frederic Bristow (1825-1898) was a composer born and raised in New York City. Symphony No. 4, "Ideal Home," deals with immigration to the United States. William Henry Frye (1813-1864) was a composer and music critic born in Philadelphia. His Niagara Symphony, a 12 1/2-minute work, is very ambitious in style and may well be the first work in the United States in the field of symphonic poetry, which was at the forefront of its time. Leon Botstein is in his element in such works, and lovers of rare works will find much to enjoy. Botstein is written in Japan as Botstein, Botstein, Botstein, etc., but he pronounces it closer to Botstein. Tobu Shoji Co.
