New recording by Alban Gerhard! A collection of masterpiece arrangements with piano & saxophone Q! This is a surprise! The new emperor of the German cello world, Alban Gerhard and his Ariage Quintet (saxophone quartet + piano) re-create masterpieces! From Baroque to Gershwin, each piece is taken seriously, faithful to the spirit of the original, and playfully and brilliantly arranged. Listening to the concerto pieces by Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi, one is amazed at the expressive power of the four saxophones and piano intertwined with the cello. Some arrangements are close to the original, while others are bold and unique, such as the jazzy sixth variation of "Variations on a Rococo Theme. (Here, the harmonic structure of the original variation is almost intact, but Tchaikovsky is transported in a time machine to an underground nightclub filled with cigarette smoke. ) The final piece, "Fantasy in Blue," is of course an arrangement of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue," but with surprising re-creations, such as assigning elements of the piano solo to cello and saxophone, reversing the solo and orchestra, and reconstructing the piano cadenza.
