Description:
Yale University's prestigious choir Hyperion Vol. 3! Chamber Music version of the German Requiem! Founded in 2003 by Simon Carrington and directed by Masaaki Suzuki from 2009 to 2013 (Chief Guest Conductor as of 2018), the Yale University Schola Cantorum Choir (Yale Schola Cantorum). Members are drawn by audition from all departments of the prestigious Yale University in the U.S. The choir performs high-level church music under the auspices of the Yale Institute of Church Music David Hill, director and principal conductor as of 2018, has performed at Winchester Cathedral and Westminster Cathedrals, and St. John's College, Cambridge, among other prestigious choirs. The choir's new recording of Brahms' masterpiece, the German Requiem, is the result of a new arrangement by David Hill himself, "Fauré: Requiem (CDA68209)," which has created quite a stir. Inspired by Brahms' own "piano reduction version," this is a "chamber ensemble (octet of vn, va, vc, cb, fl, ob, cl, p) version.The arranger is Ian Farrington, who studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at Cambridge University. A pianist, organist, and arranger, Farrington is known especially for his small-scale arrangements of large-scale orchestral works, including this "Chamber Ensemble Version of the German Requiem" and "Mahler's Symphony No. 1," arranged for 15 players, which have been performed around the world.
