Nash Ensemble's "Brundibar". The legacy of composers who lost their lives in concentration camps. ■The Nash Ensemble, a British super chamber music ensemble that defies the barriers of different compositions, styles, and repertoires of different countries and eras. The Nash Ensemble, which has performed works by Turina and Schumann, will next focus on music composed in the tragic Theresienstadt concentration camp, a place where the Nazi persecution of Jews took place. Four Jewish composers lost their lives during the Nazi persecution of the Jews: Hans Krasa (1899-1944), Victor Ullmann (1898-1944), Gideon Klein (1919-1945), and Pavel Haas (1899-1944). There are living testimonies of these aspiring composers here, including David Matthews' (1943-) arrangement of Krása's "Brundibár," originally composed as an opera for children, in a "suite version."
