Description:

Utah Symphony Orchestra 75th AnniversaryLive premiere of three commissioned works by the Utah Symphony OrchestraFounded in 1940, the Utah Symphony Orchestra celebrated its 75th anniversary during the 2015/16 season. The Utah Symphony has enjoyed a successful relationship with Maurice Abravanel for more than 30 years since the end of the war, including recordings of the complete symphonies of Mahler, Sibelius, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, and others. This album is a recording of a concert series celebrating the 75th anniversary & longstanding partnership with the George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation. It features a collection of premieres of works by contemporary composers commissioned by the Utah Symphony Orchestra. Augusta Reed Thomas is a Grammy Award-winning American female composer. Her orchestral work is based on the Greek myth of Aeos, the goddess of the dawn. Nico Murie has attracted attention as a composer of post-minimal music.Andrew Norman is a Los Angeles-based composer and percussionist whose work Switch, subtitled "In Memory of Mr. and Mrs. Koussevitzky," was commissioned by the Utah Symphony Orchestra and the Sevitsky Foundation.
