Here is his latest album with the London Symphony Orchestra, of which he is the Principal Guest Conductor. The music is Ravel and Debussy. The program looks familiar, but Debussy's "The Sea" and "Prelude to the Pastoral Afternoon" will be performed on period instruments with Les Siecle, the first time for the modern orchestra. In addition, Ravel's "Spanish Rhapsody" is a welcome first for the repertoire. Debussy with Siecle has also made a splash with its interpretation and tone, but this time with the London Symphony Orchestra, one of the world's most superb high-performance orchestras, which makes Lotto's intentions even more ideal. In the "Prelude to the Pastoral Afternoon," principal flutist Gareth Davies' soft, seven-tone world is intoxicating. The beauty of the weak notes in the strings is also superb, and the effect of the high-quality SACD recording shines through. The highlight is Ravel's "Spanish Rhapsody.All of Lotto's Ravels are masterpieces, and this one did not disappoint, with a magical orchestration that was turned into a picture scroll of exquisite colors by the virtuosity of the London Symphony Orchestra.
