The collection of tracks on this album is a carefully selected compilation from Ben Webster's European years (1964-1970). An offer to play at the Ronnie Scotts Club in London for a month in late 1964 was a turning point in Ben Webster's career when he settled in Scandinavia and spent the rest of his life there. Physical decline did not diminish his playing, and by the final day, Webster was playing with passion and intensity, his ballad playing becoming more beautiful and tender, simplified to brevity, and with more weight in every note. Webster was one of those jazz musicians whose presence was palpable on every recording. The tracks on this album offer a glimpse into a historically significant period in Webster's career.
