Description:

Louis Spohr (1784-1859) is known today as a close friend of Beethoven and an excellent violinist. In fact, however, he was an even greater "symphonic writer" than Beethoven at the time, and his later works in particular show the influence of Schumann on his style. His works, such as the "Purification of Sound," the fourth symphony in the style of a "symphonic poem," which was advanced at the time, are filled with well-crafted sounds that would have been composed to surpass Beethoven's. Griffiths took the time to create these works. Griffiths took his time to create this 5-CD set, which includes high-quality recordings of the complete works. (C)RS
