The celestial Rachel Podger descends upon us. Her new recording is Vivaldi’s *La Cetra*! In February 2012, Rachel Podger—the celestial baroque violinist—returned to Japan once again with her ensemble, Brecon Baroque. Having performed works such as Bach’s “Unaccompanied Sonatas and Partitas” and “Violin Concertos,” as well as Mozart’s “Complete Violin Sonatas,” Pogger now returns to the Venetian master Vivaldi. Pogger’s first Vivaldi recording since her legendary 2003 release *La Stravaganza* is *La Cetra*, a masterpiece from his mature period! In his mature years, Vivaldi—serving as composer and music director at the Teatro Sant’Angelo—was brimming with creative energy. Published in 1727 and dedicated to Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI, the concerto collection *La Cetra* employs the unique tuning method known as “ scordatura,” and is considered one of Vivaldi’s greatest masterpieces, alongside his contemporary work *Tentativi di armonia e di invenzione*, published in 1725. Joining Pogger in “La Cetra” is the Dutch Baroque Society, a young elite ensemble from the Dutch early music scene that has captured the world’s attention!
