This recording is a tribute to Bach that will captivate musicians and music lovers alike. Nemanja has chosen original works that are truly meaningful to him and are part of his personal story, as well as arrangements that pay homage to Bach. The first, "Sicilienne," often arranged for a variety of instruments, surprises from its pure tone, as if it were played on a period instrument, the flauto-traverso. In the Suite No. 1 - Prelude for Unaccompanied Cello, performed solo by the viola, one finds clarity, nobility, and serenity all embedded in a short piece.The aria "Have mercy on me, my God" for alto and solo violin from the "Matthew Passion" is sung with passion by countertenor Philip Jaroussky and beautifully supported by Nemanja. The three concertos are the most worthwhile to listen to on this album, and among them is the Violin Concerto in D minor, BWV 1052R. This piece is a restoration of what is known as the "Harpsichord Concerto No. 1," and as such it is a work of great technical skill, but of course Nemanja's technique is not only flawless, but the polyphonic richness with the backing string ensemble and the nostalgic tinted energy of the The rhythmic clash of the two ensembles, the intensity of the music, which feels like jazz or rock, and the beautiful timbre of the instruments' overtones, with vibrato kept to a minimum, are a simple way of expressing the most human emotions of Bach's works.
